author of The Craft and Business of Songwriting

"There are no rules in songwriting that will assure your success," says Braheny. "But there are some basic principles and techniques that are understood by successful writers, that will get you a lot closer. Whether you're writing alternative rock, hip-hop, pop or country, the more control you have over your craft, the better you communicate musically and lyrically."

John Braheny, author of the new 2nd Edition of The Craft and Business of Songwriting book, will discuss techniques and principles used in creating artistically and commercially successful songs as well as topics related to the marketing of songs, songwriter/performers and bands. Time permitting, songwriters will have an opportunity to have a song critiqued if they bring it on cassette or CD with a lyric sheet

John Braheny is former co-founder/director of the Los Angeles Songwriters Showcase, the national, non-profit songwriters organization. He is Past-President of the California Copyright Conference and served on the Board of Governors of The L.A. chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (which presents the Grammy Awards) and the National Academy of Songwriters (NAS). He has presented songwriting seminars for universities and songwriter¹s organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada and has co-produced 22 Songwriters Expos in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. He is currently co-host of For the Record, the Los Angeles music industry radio talk show on KPFK-FM, is a Music Biz Magazine columnist and a songwriting and music industry consultant.
